Missionary IQ Test
If you brave using a public restroom at a park, the odds are already stacked against you, right? Last week, we went on a field trip and were challenged to new levels.
Before I heard Nature’s call, I had already bailed out two family members requesting toilet paper… from their stalls. They hadn’t noticed the rules of this particular “game.” Here’s the scenario.
(see the pick above)
You walk into the bathroom and have to decide how much TP your trip will require. Once inside the stall, there is nothing but a solitary toilet and, of course, the wastebasket to dispose of your used TP. But no TP dispenser. You have to bring what you need from the bathroom entrance. And it’s the thinnest single-ply TP ever.
How does one make such a decision?
Here’s where my mind went.
Some of us treat our spiritual lives like this. How much do I need of “God time” before I start my week? Will that hour on Sunday carry me through? Or how much do I need each day? A chapter’s-worth? YouVersion’s 2-minute video?
Look, I don’t know what you need. I know that we’ll need more than the barest necessities throughout any given day. At least we will if we want to thrive like we were meant to.
Recently, I’ve been compelled to get up early (4:57 AM) to participate in the Morning Watch - praying, singing, reading, sitting quietly - starting my day in a leisurely hour with Jesus and winning a beachhead, as it were, to be ready to both take enemy territory and to withstand the onslaughts.
He’s giving me strength for the day, leading me to the front lines, and teaching me to war again.
One of my friends with whom I shared the picture above said he’d take the whole roll every time. If I apply that to my time with the Lord, I’d agree. Let’s make ourselves available to be restocked to the fullest measure!
