Pick A Key, Any Key
One of the best things we can do today is sit down with our instrument to play and sing to the LORD. If you’re like me, sometimes inspiration for song choice gets in the way. I don’t know where to start.
Here’s my advice: pick a key, any key.
Some of us play songs in several keys, while others play them only in one. BUT my guess is that most of us have our favorites for each key, or at the very least a number of songs that come to mind when we think of specific keys.
I’ll give you my mind map as I brainstorm the songs that come to mind for each key. You’ll notice two things:
I don’t play the songs in the same key you do, and
There’ll be some songs you haven’t played in a while. Maybe pick those the next time you sit down for a Praise Vacation.
I’ve included the Spotify Link for each song. (they won’t likely be in the same key as I list below) Let me know if you need the chord chart.
A
Bb
C
Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing
Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me
D
Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble
E
’Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus
How Deep The Father’s Love For Us
F
G
(Every song in Ab, Bb, or B for guitar players…LOL)
10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)
Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing)
Okay, you get the idea. Do you get the inspiration?
And isn’t it interesting how keys seem to define seasons? Like A was the 90s, E was the 2000s, but today seems to be dominated by B (or more likely capo 4 in G for the recording, capo 3 live, and no capo for regular worship leaders.) 😇
