So I had this experience where I realized that I had been lulled to sleep. Maybe you can relate to this, because I had forgotten that God is actually steadfast. He’s actually good. He’s actually all-powerful. He’s actually able to do what He said He would do.

And it’s just woken me up to the reality that I think a lot of us in the Church have been lulled to sleep - like we are just okay with “the normal” and we are okay praying that God “leads the hands of the doctors” rather than even praying for healing in Jesus’ name.

And I’m not getting into a theological discussion, but I am getting into something that asks, “What’s in my heart?” You know, what is going on? What do I honestly believe about God? Where’s my passion?

As I’m getting ready to lead worship Sunday at my church, and looking at Planning Center, and I’ll just give you the full tour here... (turns the camera toward the screen)

We’re singing “I Will Sing of my Redeemer.” I’m starting with this idea that if I declare with my mouth (from Romans 10:9) that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, there’s salvation for you.

Then we go into This is Amazing Grace and Build Your Kingdom Here. And then, I want us to read through this with tenacity from Philippians 3, which says, “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus.” Because of that worth and the worth of knowing Christ, Jesus my Lord… and not that I’ve obtained this, but I press on to make it my own. Verse 12 says, “I press on to make it my own because Jesus has made me His own.” Jesus believes in me, so I will believe in Him. So, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upper call!

Then we go into Death Was Arrested and I believe this is the year for believers to overcome the culture around us, because frankly sometimes we read the scripture or talk about scripture in ways that seem like somebody who is telling you something that they read in a travel guide, but they’ve never been there before. Like they’ve read the scripture but never experienced the Kingdom of God coming, the Kingdom of God lighting them up. And in fact, it’s just like it demands action from us friends. We can’t just stay in the places that are comfortable. We have to go, we have to get out, we have to take steps of faith and actually do something different with our lives.

Like getting out where it matters, in the streets. We can go outside where it’s cold, right? It’s rainy outside, but who cares? We have to get out where it matters. We have to get out in the real in the street, and we have to walk in faith, be alive in our faith, and take risks.

I guess what I’m saying today is simply this: God is actually who He says He is. We can trust Him. Let’s together walk in faith believing.
