Leaders Need To Read Kings To Get The Fire Of Holiness Back

Ever notice how some brothers and sisters seem to over-emphasize God’s “love” and under-emphasize our need for repentance? It’s in our culture. Like high places. High places that need to be destroyed.

I pray the spirit of Josiah rises up in His Church.

As I’ve again read through the books of First and Second Kings, my heart breaks as God’s people, over and over, walk away from Him. And their LEADERS often are the worst!

We read too many cautionary tales of partial obedience (read: disobedience) and outright rebellion. The examples of good, Godly leaders are few.

David. Hezekiah. Josiah.

Out of 39 kings mentioned in these accounts, only 3 followed the Lord with all their hearts.

Of all the worship leaders you know, how many make the short list? Are you on that list?

Interestingly, Asa and Jehoshaphat, as “honorable mentions,” did what was “right,” but didn't remove high places.

Those stubborn high places. So what’s the big deal?

Oh you know. Idolatry, compromise, doing things our way, sin.

I mean, in our modern churches, and in our own lives, what would it be like those high places? I won’t answer for you, but it’d be worth asking the Lord if there are any high places you’re allowing.

Do you need to repent of anything? Are there ways you can be more wholly given to Him? Are there little things you’ve been “allowing” that go against the true heart of worship?

Often, God allows the difficulties we face to get the gunk out of our hearts. Read the books of Kings and allow the Lord to fuel a desire for holiness and consecration.
